# Flashing the bootloader

From time to time it will be necessary to flash the bootloader with a newer version.

Copy the currently downloaded firmware (.bin file) into the FIRMWARE directory of the SD card.

Keep in mind that The total number of character in a filename is 32 including the extension file name. So max length is 28 and “.bin” = 4 (dot is considered 1 character).

First you have to jump into the [Radio Menu](https://github.com/opentx/manual-for-opentx-2-2/tree/f979370e594d8dd8ae71861cc48a0af0a7c8234e/advanced/radio_menus.md) then hit the page button until you get to the SD CARD menu.

Highlight the FIRMWARE directory and press the \[Ent] key.

Highlight the bin file and Long Press \[Ent].

Choose flash bootloader from the menu and press \[Ent].

You can verify the bootloader version by going into the VERSION page of the Radio Menu.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://doc.open-tx.org/manual-for-opentx-2-2/advanced-features/flashing_the_bootloader.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
